On “Doves,” the Black Angels channel Kula Shakur, another band of shaggy-haired psychedelic rockers who happened to precede them by a decade or so. In fact, Kula Shakur was the band that proved you could, in fact, make Space Rock with Bollywood beats. It was a long-running debate, trust me. And the Black Angels have swallowed the K.S. aesthetic like Moby swallowed Captain Ahab: whole and unapologetically. But “Doves” is a terrific track on a killer album, so I won’t begrudge the band a little artistic larceny.
