“It seems that most bands comprised of members from formerly great bands usually coming running out of the gates with hype and money following them like kids after an ice cream truck. Maritime is a completely different story, though.” — Redefine Magazine
Maritime is the legacy of two outstanding, if too-soon forgotten, indie bands: The Promise Ring (emo trailblazers) and D.C.’s own Dismemberment Plan. Their first album was a bit subdued, and not at all what the hype machine anticipated. And then they picked things up. The second LP included a half-dozen indie pop gems, among them ‘Punk Rock T-Shirts,’ a tune I still find myself humming at random bus stops two years after I heard it first. ‘For Science Fiction’ from the band’s newest album is just as catchy. There’s not a lot of depth here, but this is as good as indie pop gets.
