City and Colour

posted by Lauren on September 18, 2008

City and Colour was literally a band I stumbled across. A co-worker bartender friend of mine gave me this CD, since his wife brought it with a pile of other CDs to give me. I listened to it, and instantly felt a pull at my heartstrings. The band is a side project from “post-hardcore” band Alexisonfire singer Dallas Green. The name comes from his: Dallas (city) and Green (colo[u]r). Cute.

Something about this somber, acoustic, almost morose folk song style makes you wish for those rainy, core-chilling days that always seem to follow a devastating break-up. This song, “Confessions” translates a pain that truly reverberated through me the first time I heard it. It is one of those core shakers. The music is disorganized enough to get lost in, but organized enough to follow the story flow. Think of a less whispered Iron & Wine, or a Canadian version of The Frames. I am excited to see how this band translates an in outdoor, festival situation. It was only coincidence that this band is playing ACL Fest and I found them when I did.
