Margot & the Nuclear So & So’s

How can you not like a band named after a character from The Royal Tenenbaums? This eight member group has everything your heart could desire. Unlike some acts, where the vocals are lost in a cacaphony of sound, Margot’s lyrics are always front and center. Which is a good thing, because they’re worth listening to. And Richard Edwards’ voice just makes me…..happy. How long has it been since a band put a smile on your face?

As if releasing one new album wasn’t enough, Margot released two new records this month. Apparently there was a difference of opinion on the song selection between Epic records and the band, so they decided to run it twice, releasing ‘Animal’ and ‘Not Animal.’ The band’s picks and Epic’s. Five of the twelve songs appear on both releases, and both are available on vinyl. Both albums are of equal measure, with a gang of great songs on each. If I had to choose one song from each album though, I’d pick ‘I am a Lightning Rod’ from ‘Animal’ and ‘As Tall as Cliffs’ from ‘Not Animal.’

If you see this band live (and you should), you will definitely leave feeling good about music and the effect a well-crafted tune can have. When was the last time you had that feeling? Or bought a brand new record on vinyl? I bet you can’t even remember.

I love this band. For Atlanta fans, they’re playing the EARL on 11/7! Nice writeup!
