Sea Wolf

posted by Emily on December 31, 2008

Sea Wolf has the Silver Jews-esque set up of one constant member, Alex Brown Church, who sings and writes the songs. The band is signed to Dangerbird Records, an indie label out of LA’s so hip-it-kind-of-hurts neighborhood, Silverlake. (Silversun Pickups is also on Dangerbird.) But anyway, the song: Remember when Britney and all the li’l starlets used the megaphone thing in their songs? And then even Liz Phair started to use it and you were all, really? Liz Phair’s using gimmicks now? Gimmicks used by Britney? Well, Sea Wolf sound like they use the same technique in “You’re A Wolf”, except it seems to make the song more sedate, more secretive so, listening to it, you feel calm and intrigued all at once. The music is not unlike waves, ebbing and flowing and Church’s voice (to get fanciful) is the mist on top.

Upon further reflection, nothing about this song reminds me of Britney Spears. In fact, sorry I brought her up.
