Earlimart

It’s always a little harder to justify reviewing a band that’s been around for a few years. This is a “new music” site, after all. But with Earlimart’s talent and improvement over the years, the question isn’t even close. The band’s latest CD came out last July and was filled with solid tracks. I picked it up again after hearing them at SXSW (from afar, unfortunately. Thanks, webcast). The album was terrific but I was even more impressed with what the band has done since then. In the last few months, they’ve been fooling around with what the cool kids in the music biz call “reverb,” integrating the double echo effect from their live shows into their recorded work. To me, it says something when a group takes the time and money to make something good sound astounding.
You can keep up with Earlimart’s updates and tour schedule from their website. In the meantime, check out a few of my favorite tracks. Both pair a driving beat with a dark, disembodied voice. Sounds like? I have no idea, but I want more. Leave your suggestions in the comments and we’ll check them out.

Earlimart has always been one of those bands that have been around for what seems like forever, but every year they seem to pop up and garner some attention only to dissapear again to pop up again when a new album comes out. I hope this is the year that they actually stay on people’s radar!
Have you seen them live yet? They are performing on Josh Schwartz’s new series Rockville CA (www.rockvilleca.com) the site has two performances up from them. You should check it out.

Thanks for the info Janet!! I really like this band too. I missed them when they were here last but will certainly make an effort when they come back around. I heard they were great at SxSW.
