Art Brut

posted by Leigh on June 19, 2009

“Ready Art Brut?” frontman Eddie Argos asks his fellow bands mates at a recent NY show. Ready they are. Although they didn’t play my two favorite tracks (listen to them here) from their third album, Art Brut Vs Satan, I’ll cut Art Brut some slack. I mean, I couldn’t really expect them to play every song from the new album on the very first night of their five-night NY residency.

Or could I? I thought Eddie just knew how much I loved it when his little brother discovered rock ‘n roll, so of course I would be equally excited about his discovery of The Replacements. And the Zyrtec song (officially known as Mysterious Bruises) . . . Eddie couldn’t tell by one look at me that I was trying to solve the mystery myself? I’ll have to be more obvious next time.

When it’s Art Brut versus Satan, who wins? Unless Satan has some unforgettable guitar riffs and charmingly funny lyrics of his own, I’ll have to bet on Art Brut.
