Cage the Elephant

Cage the Elephant is one of those bands that comes out and manages to make as many enemies as they do fans. Those who write the band off early miss out on some great dirty rock narratives that flow as though Anthony Keidis learned the blues. Just listen to “In One Ear” where lead singer Matt Schultz gives spells out just how he feels about the music industry. That could be why the band hopped the pond and signed with a European label before even bothering with the U.S. crowd (a la Kings of Leon.)

Their first single “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” tells the tail of a stripper along with other “wicked” folks who just can’t rest until they “close their eyes for good.” The whole time Schultz’s vocal styles are complimented by ramblin’ blues guitars and some loose southern drumming.

But, the most enticing part of Cage the Elephant are their stage antics. They won me over at Bonnaroo when Schultz was running all over the stage and climbing the lights not to mention his attempt at a stage invasion. I ended up on stage with them for a few songs and to say it was awesome would be an understatement. Aside from a few festival appearances, Cage the Elephant is planning a tour with Silversun Pickups and Manchester Orchestra, two other phenomenal bands so go check them out!
