Reverend & The Makers
Reverend & The Makers are a Sheffield based band who’s influences range from Bob Marley to Oasis via Sly & The Family Stone. The Reverend is Jon McClure, a politically charged lyricist who has in the past penned tracks with his former flatmate, Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner.
Reverend & The Makers debut album, ‘The State Of Things’ did very well in the UK charts in 2007 thanks to hit singles such as ‘He Said He Loved Me’ and ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’. The album however did not fair so well with critics, received scathing reviews from the likes of NME and Drowned In Sound.
Now the band are back with their new single ‘Silence Is Talking’ and album ‘A French Kiss In The Chaos’ hoping to convert some of the cynicism which was somewhat unfairly given.
Silence Is Talking is the epitome of a summer track, using a sample of War’s ‘Low Rider’ the track oozes laid back style and is a change in focus from some of the more serious subject matter in previous Reverend tracks. Here’s hoping this new found direction may convince some of the critics that Reverend & The Makers are in for the long haul.
‘Silence Is Talking’ is available to download July 20th with the album, ‘A French Kiss In The Chaos’ available the week after on July 27th. The band are touring throughout the UK during October and November.
