Banjo Or Freakout is Turin born Alessio Natalizia and his computer. A dream born from having too much spare time, Natalizia’s music is drawn-out hazy beats accompanied by soft vocals and overlying guitar riffs.

The lo-fi sound of tracks comes from Banjo Or Freakout’s unique way of recording. When Natalizia first started recording his music he noticed would always end up going back to the first take and using that. Since then he has used the philosophy that the first take is always the best and has never looked back. A great idea which will give a uniqueness to each and every performance as well as being a refreshing outlook which is a change from the usual ‘play this song hundreds of times and we’ll use the best bits from certain takes’ approach.

Banjo Or Freakout take influence from the likes of the legendary Arthur Russell, German 1960’s experimental band Can and 1970’s UK experimental band This Heat. Natalizia is a fan of current bands and artists such as Animal Collective, Wolf Eyes, The Dirty Projectors, Ghostface Killah, Black Lips, Grizzly Bear and Acoustic Ladyland, takes influences from their work when creating new music.

As you can probably tell from Natalizia’s wide range of influences the music he produces is unique and tough to categorise; the only way to get a real sense of what is on offer is to take a listen.
