Wave Machines

Bands with Wave in their title seem to be the flavour of the month here on Indieball right now. After recent articles featuring The Wave Pictures and Rogue Wave now comes the turn of Wave Machines. A British band hailing from Liverpool, Wave Machine offer an indie-electro synth-pop fusion in a similar vein to artists such as Passion Pit and Hot Chip. There are however, many more influences which can be more subtly heard. ‘Keep The Lights On’ is an amalgamation of Mika, Prince and Animal Collective all in three and a half minutes. ‘The Greatest Escape We Ever Made’ gives off more of an MGMT vibe with breezy vocals over an electro beat. And ‘Punk Spirit’ is less electro and more indie. It’s the stand out track from the bands debut album. A lot less in-your-face than most of the other tracks, ‘Punk Spirit’ shows the band have a serious side behind all the falsetto vocals and electro beats and can produce great, simple music.
‘Wave If You’re Really There’ is the debut LP from the band. It has been out for a couple of months now and is really starting to get some recognition in the blogosphere.
Wave Machines latest single, ‘Punk Spirit’, is out August 31st.
