What else should the trumpeter of Beirut and the horn player from Arcade Fire do in his spare time? Why, start a side project of course. Kelly Pratt, a very talented wind instrumentalist and the force behind Team B, is apparently also a very good guitarist and keyboardist. Oh and he can write interesting lyrics and sing them rather well too. What about the drums and the bass, you ask? Pratt gets by with a little help from his friends, like Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem) and Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), respectively.

The 2009 self-titled debut album is all over the musical map. Close your eyes and point your finger, or start with the tracks here, No Purchase Necessary and On My Mind. No Purchase Necessary, with its horn-ridden intro dotted with blips and bleeps, suddenly surprises with some heavier guitar, becoming the track-quite-like-no-other-track of the album. Do not miss its message for the times! (Hint: Find the solution.) On My Mind drips with Beirut influence, playing up the big band feel, the humor-ridden sadness twisting your heart over and over again. The rest of the album promises additional variety (doo-wop anyone?), should you have the desire to rummage the remaining tracks like a flea market.
