“Obama … I want to go surfing!” Well who doesn’t want to hang ten with the nation’s newest Nobel Laureate? And then write a song about it? OK, so The Drums, who hail from the surfing center of Brooklyn, NY, may actually be saying “Oh mama” instead. Regardless, this is one of those pitch-perfect pop songs that builds a nest in your frontal cortex and simply will not leave. Which is fine by me, really. Especially as the days grow colder and more gray, and fantasies of an Endless Summer get harder to shake. Mark my words: you’ll be hearing this track in a VW or iTunes commercial someday soon. Until then, hum along to yourself and feel free to catch a mental wave with Barack. No one will be the wiser.
