Broken Bells

Another SXSW highlight was Broken Bells. They could only make me look forward, forward to their next album, forward to their next show, forward to just listening to them more when I got home. Featuring James Mercer from The Shins and Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse), the band utilizes those talents and sounds to the brim, creating ethereal and melodic tunes that permeate the air like they were there all along.

“The High Road” and “Vaporize”, off of the self-titled 2010 debut album, are songs for the fire escape. Seriously. They make me want to sit on the fire escape and ponder life. I sit and I watch and I stare off into the distance. I forget about time. It’s just perfect for days like these.

OMG. The High Road just crawled inside my head and exploded my brain with such ecstasy I can’t do anything else! I’d never heard of them but I will seek out and buy as soon as I can!

Thanks so much for bringing them into my life!

It’s impossible not to like anything with James Mercer’s vocals. I was underwhelmed by the album as a whole, but there are a few great tracks (these included).

The live show is amazing. When I first heard the album, I wasn’t sold completely, but after seeing them live and then listening to the album again, I was devoted.
