The L Magazine’s Northside Festival (link) is a four day musical extravaganza centered in the indie hub of Williamsburg / Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The festival features mostly local bands, with a smattering of talent hailing from across the globe as well.
Brooklyn’s Amazing Baby has been on my radar to see live for a while now. (Note: I did have one disappointing instance recently where a website erroneously listed AB as playing at a local venue, but it turned out just to be a rumor. Sad.) I was able to finally catch them during the second day of the festival and was not disappointed. Will Roan’s voice is gorgeous, like smooth and bright honey dripping endlessly off of the comb. Interestingly enough, the live show played up their electronic flares and accents much more than on the recordings on 2009‘s Rewild, which made for almost having two very different, but equally enjoyable, experiences of the music. Check out the tracks “Invisible Place” and “Smoke Bros” here.

The opening notes of Invisible Place is hauntingly similar to the opening riff of War Pigs by Black Sabbath.
