On album release day for The Orchard just last week, Ra Ra Riot played an in-store at a local record store in Brooklyn. The Orchard, for me, was an album that I danced around for a bit, getting close, backing off, not wanting to be around it, and then wanting to be around it all the time. All that flirtation believe it or not was happening in only the span of a few days while I listened to the pre-release web stream. By the time the in-store came around, I knew that seeing them in an intimate setting, with pared down sounds, would be pretty unforgettable.
Spike some Vampire Weekend with some turbo-charged Yeasayer and you come kind of close to Ra Ra Riot. Check out “Boy”, off of The Orchard, and take a stroll back to 2008’s The Rhumb Line with “Dying is Fine.”
