Tanlines

posted by Ariana on October 28, 2010

Hopefully by now it has become evident, from my posts on this site, that I know nothing about music, contemporary or otherwise. I don’t claim to be an expert on any of the bands whose music I propagate, and I only post about them because I like them and/or would recommend them. Any impression to the contrary is likely just the result of my verbosity. Anyway, all this is to say that I know very little about Tanlines, a duo with tropical leanings, but I like them a lot. Tanlines’ recent EP, Settings, is perplexingly chill. Perplexing because of that Clooney-esque character with the weird haircut on the front, chill because of those utterly relaxing dance beats. Listen with bass for full effect.

Additionally (and somewhat tangentially), what is it with bands and not having official sites anymore? I’ve noticed that it has increasingly slipped out of vogue, and that MySpace or a Pitchfork interview are now the preferred vehicles for any communiqués that the band wishes to make. Is this a practicality issue? When did this even happen? Did this happen? Or am I just completely inept at finding anything but MySpace and Pitchfork sites? I’m confused.
