Washed Out

posted by Loren on October 29, 2010

Lazy afternoons deserve their complimentary soundtrack. This playlist is characterized by relaxing sounds and rudimentary beats, as well as hypnotic vocals in support. The would-be highlight of this soundtrack is the musical genius of Ernest Greene, hailing from Perry, Georgia and who plays under the stage name Washed Out.

Greene fascinates with his lingering vocals and receding in-and-out beats, reeling in the listener with several musically intelligent aspects. Each track is perfect in length, not overbearing yet also not too concise. As is the case with “New Theory” where the lyrics are surprisingly coherent and influential (“It’s yours to find”) as well as the music trancy and complimentary. Yet Greene is more obscure and vague with his words in “Feel It All Around” and basically every track he’s produced. What is most inspiring is that Ernest Greene did not anticipate his popularity—he made the beats in his parent’s home and posted them on Myspace—and simply had no intention of fame. His newest album, Life of Leisure, is out now.
