{Another perspective on the new Iron and Wine album . . . No, there will not be a third.}
I am in love. This week, I witnessed magic on stage; Iron and Wine playing at the Los Angeles Amoeba Records. The Iron and Wine I know is melancholy, but the band I witnessed on January 24th was much different. Their new record, Kiss Each Other Clean, released worldwide January 25th, is an excellent mix of indie rock, a little jazz, and experimental funk. I have not heard an album so inventive and unique in a long time. The album and their live set is a breath of fresh air.
Every song is different. They use unusual percussion sounds, horns, keyboards, and of course, the beautiful vocals of Sam Beam. Don’t get me wrong, I have always been a fan of the band, but the new stuff seems more exciting. Kiss Each Other Clean has been on repeat since I got in the car. “Glad Man Singing” really shows off Beam’s vocals and “Big Burned Hand” is just downright funky. Hear all of the tracks at the official site link below. Iron and Wine is touring for the next few weeks so check out the Myspace calendar for a city near you; you won’t be disappointed!
