James Vincent McMorrow

posted by Alex on March 3, 2011

{SXSW is only a few weeks away. Whether or not you will be in Austin, TX in March, the Countdown to SXSW series should hopefully get you excited about the fantastic artists who will be performing this year. And maybe convince you to come. Check the full schedule at the SXSW link above for more info.}

The Messiah has arrived. James Vincent McMorrow is a mix between Fleet Foxes, James Morrison (way better), and Jesus.  His voice is beautiful, a breath of fresh air.  His passionate lyrics and soulful voice will make anyone melt.  If you haven’t caught on already, I am in love with him.

McMorrow released his album, Early In The Morning, in February 2010 in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland.  How come it has taken the United States so long to get their hands on this pot of gold?!  The album was only released in the U.S. on January 25th, 2011.

Early In The Morning took a total of five months to record and, like, Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago, it was entirely self-recorded and was made in complete seclusion.  He lived in an isolated cabin by the sea.  How lovely does that sound?  The tracks “And If My Heart Should Somehow Stop” and “Hear the Noise that Moves So Soft and Low” both show off his stunning vocals and heartfelt, poetic lyrics.

McMorrow makes a short stop in the US in March, including SXSW in Austin, but a lot of his tour takes place in cities throughout Europe. If you can make any of his shows, you’re lucky. To conclude, James Vincent McMorrow, to me, is what Justin Bieber is to pubescent, whiney girls.  If you do not like what you hear . . . I will find you.

    “pubescent, whiney girl” sounds like James Vincent McMorrow’s voice in the awful “Higher Love” cover. Imagine having to hear that every advert break…..
