It has been a long three years! Finally, The Submarines are releasing their anticipated album, Love Notes/Letter Bombs. Let me say, I was just about ready to kill someone after hearing “You, Me and the Bourgeoisie,” off the 2008 album Honeysuckle Weeks, for the seven millionth time. The Submarines’ poppy sound was what originally drew me in and turned me into an instant fan.
I love the band’s background story. John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard were both working in Boston when they met. They started a relationship and later moved to Los Angeles, but after four years, they broke up. Here’s the best part: while they were broken up, the two wrote dozens of songs about their heartbreak and longing for happiness together again. The pair ended up hearing each other’s songs, started to record some of the tracks together, and eventually reunited. Those songs became The Submarines’ first album, Declare a New State!, in 2006. Now, that is a beautiful love story.
Love Notes/Letter Bombs will be released on April 5, 2011, so mark your calendars! “Birds” is a happy-go-lucky love song that will make your heart sing. I know we’re all excited to get something other than “You, Me and the Bourgeoisie” stuck in our heads. Their tour began at SXSW last week and will span various cities in North America.
