I’m a fool for a catchy jam, and lately I’ve been found two-stepping on the sidewalk and bopping in my cubicle to Matt Pond PA’s new Spring Fools EP. The New York via Philly band has released eight albums and eight EPs since forming in 1998, yet remains largely unknown despite their longevity, output, and continuous touring.
Spring Fools is a discerning selection of five well crafted and compelling songs. Inspired by the season’s optimism, it’s a combination of perceptive songwriting and engaging instrumentation, including the delicate vocals of Ariel Abshire accompanying Pond’s own.
The irresistibly up-tempo “Love to Get Used” kicks off the record with bright indie pop and candid wordplay. Having recently joined The Wooden Birds, you can find Matt Pond on tour with them this summer. Until then, let the lead track put some spring in your step.
