Pearl and the Beard

posted by Alex on August 11, 2011

What more do I need to say? The below track “Sweetness” has a cello in it.  But wait, it gets even better.  The song is also a duet!  Can’t get any better than that.

I love the unique instrumentation and catchy vocals of the eccentric trio, Pearl and The Beard.  Jocelyn Mackenzie, Emily Hope Price, and Jeremy Styles met in New York City and the rest is history.  Pearl and The Beard has a wide range of instruments, ranging from simple guitar to a glockenspiel.  Their most recent album, Killing The Darlings, was released earlier this year; I love every chord, every rhythm, and every minute of it.

“Sweetness” is the perfect love song.  It isn’t dark and depressing, yet it still possesses a certain charm that could win over anyone.  It’s fast and upbeat, but closes with Styles slowly and beautifully repeating the word “sweetness” over and over.  For all you romantics out there, “Sweetness” deserves a spot on your mix tape.

Sadly, Pearl and The Beard will not be visiting my small hometown of Los Angeles.  If you are on the east coast, you’re lucky, since they will be making many stops there throughout August and September.
